Increases in Property Tax Rates

Local municipalities have announced increases for 2020 property tax rates.

While Texas does not have a state property tax, each local county and school district does.

The state government limits how much property tax rates can be increased by local governments without voter approval. In 2019, taxes could be raised by as much as 8% before a public election would be triggered. In 2020, the percentage reduced significantly to 2.5%.
